Toronto Rocks Rhino/Wea, 119 minutes DVD, June 29, 2004 Recorded at Downsview Park, Toronto, Canada, July 30, 2003 Click here for more information
A pared down DVD release of "Molson Canadian Rocks For Toronto", an all day benefit concert for Toronto's SARS-depressed economy held July 30th, 2003, the DVD includes six songs by the Rolling Stones, and between one to three songs from the remaining performers. Each performer was sent a tape of their performance, and allowed to choose their favorites: Rush chose "Limelight", "Freewill" and "The Spirit of Radio" with the "Paint It, Black" intro (absent from their 35 minute set are "Tom Saywer", "Dreamline", "YYZ" & "Closer To The Heart"). Included in the bonus footage is Peart's meeting the Stones' drummer, Charlie Watts, who eagerly watched Neil Peart from the wings during Rush's set. A two disk set in Canada, the DVD was released as a single disk elsewhere by cutting out some of the lesser known Canadian talent. All artists agreed to donate all DVD sales revenue to several charities, especially those related to the SARS outbreak (benefitting hospitality and health workers).

Although the original laserdisc version of A Show Of Hands included "Lock And Key" (see original entry above), producer Pierre Lamoureux, who worked on the DVD package, reportedly said that he was not even aware that "Lock and Key" was originally included on the Laserdisc.
Copies purchased at Best Buy have an exclusive version of the Grace Under Pressure audio disk with four undocumented bonus tracks tacked onto the end, with no mention of the bonus tracks at all other than the Best Buy sticker on the wrapper. The four bonus tracks are: "Limelight" and "Closer To The Heart" (both from the ESL video soundtrack), and "The Spirit Of Radio" and "Tom Sawyer" (both from the ASOH video soundtrack). Three of these tracks were previously unavailable on vinyl or CD; "Limelight" was previously released on King Biscuit Flower Hour's Best of the Best: 25 Years of Rock (live). Note: the bonus version of "Closer To The Heart" was recorded during the Moving Pictures tour, the version found on the ESL album was recorded during the Permanent Waves tour (with the "Glaswegian Chorus"!).

2 DVD, September 11, 2009
"Go behind the scenes to get a backstage look at what it takes to present the legendary band Rush during the 2008 Snakes & Arrows Concert Tour. It may appear to be one of the most exciting and glamorous jobs in the world - but being a roadie with a top-rated world-famous rock and roll band can be a grueling marathon of 18 hour work days, on an easy day. A bad is actually a couple of days, 40 hours spent hauling gear, assembling huge stacks of speakers, lifting them a hundred feet in the air, tuning instruments for demanding musicians and being cut off from every lover, friend and relative you have. This series takes you to the show you never see when you take your seat for a concert by the legendary band Rush. All the backstage secrets are revealed."
Click here to view the trailer This DVD includes 5 parts on two discs including:
Part 1 - Sound: Sure it sounds easy. Turn on some speakers and listen to the show. Well, it’s a lot more complicated than that. Everyone in every seat needs to hear the show equally well. That sound can be affected by the shape of the building, the temperature inside and even whether the audience is wearing long or short sleeves. And then there’s the show the band hears. Each member of Rush needs to hear different instruments at different levels at different times during the show.
Part 2 - Lights: You don’t buy a ticket to hear a rock show; you buy a ticket to see a rock show. Of course that’s not as simple as turning on the house lights and sitting back. Lighting sets the mood for each song. That means lights are meticulously placed which isn’t that easy when each show is in a different building. Once they are set up perfectly, the must be directed by an artist who plays the lighting board like an instrument.
Part 3 - Instrument Technicians: One of the most demanding and stressful jobs on the road is the instrument technician. Each one is charged with tuning and maintaining the magic wands these musical wizards wield. For the musicians to have a good show, their instruments must be perfect. Each night is an exercise in perfection for the four technicians on the Rush tour, guitar, drums, bass and keyboards.
Part 4 - Lighting and Video: Let’s face it, not every seat is in the front row, but everyone pays for a ticket. That means someone has to make sure everyone gets a good look at the band. So each concert is also a television show broadcast on a 50 foot screen.
Part 5 - Road Manager: Most of the road crew are responsible for making sure their area of responsibility is working. But one person has to make sure the whole thing works, every night in every city. The road manager is the conductor of this huge orchestration and you better believe he is on his game all the time.

"This 2 DVD set (previously available on 4 VHS video tapes) contains 4 1/2 hours of incredible performances by 11 of the world's greatest drummers, together with the Buddy Rich Big Band. Disc 1 contains the sessions from Los Angeles on October 14, 1989 and includes Louie Bellson, Gregg Bissonette, Dennis Chambers, Dave Weckl, Vinnie Colaiuta & Steve Gadd (2 tracks each). Disc 2 contains the sessions from New York City on April 8, 1991 and includes Neil Peart, Marvin 'Smitty' Smith, Steve Smith (3 tracks each), Omar Hakim (2 tracks), and Wil Calhoun (1 track). Special features include 3 rare Buddy Rich performances and a photo gallery. Running time 270 minutes."
"With too little time to actually rehearse with the band (a serious handicap!), it wasn’t until we were onstage playing the first tune, 'Mexicali Nose,' that I discovered two things: I was too far away from the horns to hear them (as far as could be: they were upstage left; I was downstage right), and, second and far worse, the band was playing a different arrangement from the one I had learned! That situation is usually the stuff of a performer’s nightmares (musicians, stage actors, and professional athletes all seem to have them), but all of a sudden it was horribly real. Barely a minute into 'Mexicali Nose,' I went into what I knew as the first four-bar drum break, only to hear that the rest of the band—what I could hear of them—was still playing! Pushing away the panic, I just played steady time, holding it together while I strained to hear something in the arrangement that I recognized." - Neil Peart, "News Weather And Sports", November 2008
The Making Of Burning For Buddy Warner Bros Publishing, 300 minutes VHS, 1996/1997 DVD, 2006
"In May of 1994, Neil Peart undertook a recording project which will forever stand as the ultimate tribute to Bernard 'Buddy' Rich. He and Buddy's daughter, Cathy, invited eighteen of the most respected drummers in the world to New York's Power Station studio, and for two weeks, each day, two or three world-class drummers would perform with the Buddy Rich Big Band. To quote Neil Peart: 'I'll never forget those two weeks at the Power Station. I'd walk in excited every morning, wondering what's going to happen today?' The result of this monumental project (released on CD by Atlantic Records) was some of the most exciting music ever put on tape. This DVD contains preparation for the recording, final takes, interviews with the drummers about Buddy, candid footage of the control room during play back, and more, all tied together by Neil Peart's beautiful commentary. This 2 DVD set (previously available on 4 VHS video tapes), features: Kenny Aronoff, Gregg Bissonette, Bill Bruford, Billy Cobham, Steve Ferrone, Steve Gadd, David Garibaldi, Omar Hakim, Joe Morello, Rod Morgenstein, Neil Peart, Max Roach, Simon Phillips, Ed Shaughnessy, Marvin 'Smitty' Smith, Steve Smith, Matt Sorum and Dave Weckl. A photo slide show is included as a bonus feature."
A Work In Progress
Warner Bros Publishing, 220 minutes
VHS, October 9, 1997 DVD, April 23, 2002
Neil Peart's first instructional drum video featuring the music from Test For Echo, contains "Momo's Dance Party".
"Neil Peart documents the 'work in progress' of recording Rush's album, Test For Echo, as well as the work in progress of Neil himself and his endless apprenticeship to the art of drumming. On this history-making DVD, he uses the songs from Test For Echo to demonstrate concepts such as constructing a drum part, selecting rhythmic approaches, techniques, odd times, the drummer's role in a band, drum set orchestration and creative timekeeping. This DVD features over 4 hours of video footage."
Anatomy Of A Drum Solo
Hudson Music, feature run time 202 minutes
DVD, December 7, 2005
Neil Peart's second instructional drum video
Disc 1 (Anatomy Of A Drum Solo): Der Trommler (recorded September, 2004, Frankfurt), Neil’s analysis and discussion of Der Trommler and of his approach to soloing; Hamburg solo ("Ich Bin Ein Hamburger"); "Exploration #1"; "Der Trommler" multi-angle drum-cam; "The Rhythm Method" excerpt from A Show Of Hands; The Making of Paragon; Bonus audio-only tracks of "Momo’s Dance Party" and "Pieces of Eight".
Disc 2: Exploration #2; "O Baterista" (solo from Rush in Rio); solo from Rush’s 1994 Counterparts Tour recorded March 27, 1994 at the Palace of Auburn Hills in Michigan; Rush performing "Tom Sawyer" and "Subdivisions" in Frankfurt, September, 2004 from the perspective of the drum cameras; Interview with Paul Northfield and Lorne Wheaton; setting up Neil's drums with Lorne Wheaton; solo transcription pdf; photo gallery; web links.
"Hamburg...we did play really well that night, and for me, the solo was particulary strong, confident and inventive, one of the best of the tour. After I ended it with the big gong sample (the only possible conclusion to all that bombast), I climbed down and sat behind the dryers during the acoustic interlude. Gump gave me his rare praise, 'Nice one, man,' and I said 'Why wasn't that one caught on film?' Gump must have talked to the video crew about that, because at the next show, Bob from the video crew gave me a DVD of the Hamburg show. It was only an arbitrary view from a couple of their cameras, and a rough mix off the board, but still - at least it was captured. (And would appear on Anatomy of a Drum Solo, as a 'sidebar.')" - Neil Peart, Roadshow
- "'Rock drummers killed the solo themselves,' Peart tells me when we meet at a coffee shop in Santa Monica. 'It got to be so predictable and manipulative. They cheapened it by making it a clap-along or a boring ramble.' ...one section of Peart's 'Der Trommler' solo...is something like playing badminton with two rackets while typing with your feet." - "The Big Bang", latimes.com, January 22, 2006

Classic Rock Drum Solos
Hudson Music, feature run time 120 minutes
DVD, November 13, 2007
Click here to view the trailer
Carmine Appice narrates a video history of the "drum solo" art form; focusing on the all-time greats, the DVD closes with Neil Peart's drum solo filmed in Frankfurt in 2004, previously released on R30 as well as Anatomy Of A Drum Solo.
"Hosted by rock drumming innovator/educator Carmine Appice, Classic Rock Drum Solos traces the origins of the rock drum solo with vintage footage of pioneers like Gene Krupa, Lionel Hampton, Louis Jordan's Shadow Wilson, Louis Prima's Jimmy Vincent, Bill Haley's Ralph Jones and The Ventures' Mel Taylor. Representing the 1960's are the ground-breaking performances of Ginger Baker; Michael Shrieve in his famed outing at Woodstock with Santana, and the only existing footage of rock drumming's first superstar, Sandy Nelson. Singular 1970s performances include those by Danny Seraphine, Don Brewer, Ron Bushey, Carl Palmer, Ian Paice, Clive Bunker, host Carmine Appice, and Keith Moon's only filmed drum solo. Closing out the program in the 1980s are the technically astounding works of Cozy Powell, Steve Smith and Neil Peart. DVD extras include an incisive radio interview with the legendary Keith Moon and a short tribute to the great, John Bonham by Carmine Appice. Classic Rock Solos is the only program of its kind devoted to placing the rock drummer in historic and musical perspective as a soloist, innovator, contributor and percussive artist."
Buddy Rich Memorial Concert 2008, with Neil Peart, May 26, 2009
Recorded October 18th, 2008, at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City, this three DVD set was produced by Neil Peart and Don Lombardi. Neil performs Love For Sale, Time Will Tell, Cottontail/One O'Clock Jump, and YYZ with the Buddy Rich Band.
"Three discs with almost five hours of content! Featuring Neil Peart, Chad Smith, Tommy Igoe, John Blackwell, Terry Bozzio with Efrain Toro, Nick Rich, Peter Erskine, Will Lee, and Jeff Berlin. These artists pay tribute to Buddy Rich, one of the greatest drummers of all time. With an all-star big band, they play not only Buddy classics but also their own hits. Over two hours of concert footage, plus almost two hours of rehearsal and backstage footage memorialize this historic drumming event..."
