Rush Drummer Loses Daughter

MTV News, August 21, 1997

Selena Taylor, the 19-year old daughter of Rush drummer Neil Peart and wife Jackie Taylor, was killed in a single vehicle accident August 10 in Canada.

Taylor's 1997 Jeep left Hwy. 401 between Toronto and Montreal and rolled several times. She was the couple's only child.

An arts scholarship is being established in Selena's name. Checks, payable to the Selena Taylor Foundation, can be sent to: Selena Taylor Trust Fund, 189 Carlton Street, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, M5A 2K7. Cards will be accepted at that address, but not packages. Peart's representatives are requesting privacy for the drummer as well as asking that people not call their offices with condolences or queries.

Peart toured with Rush in support of their latest album, "Test For Echo," until early July, traveling from date to date on a motorcycle, then embarked on a short bicycle tour of the States. He returned home to Toronto and began work on a book based on his travels. Peart is already the author of one travel guide which details his extended biking tour of Africa.

Peart had also been promoting his Buddy Rich tribute album, "Burning For Buddy II," released July 20. Rush had recently made the decision to return to the studio this year to start work on another studio album. No word if those plans remain intact.
