Rush Singer Lee Induces 'Headache'

Geddy Lee, My Favorite Headache ( * ) Make that earache. Geddy Lee, apparently in no rush to go solo, made 22 albums with Canadian prog-rock band Rush before striking out on his own with this uneven, unremarkable and at times unlistenable collection, co-produced by fellow Canadian Ben Mink (known best for his work with k.d. lang). Though his trademark bleat has been tamed enough to disqualify him for Chipmunks voiceovers, Lee's singing remains a helium-pumped annoyance, especially in such otherwise enjoyable exercises as Working at Perfekt and Still. Lyrics range from New Age babblespeak (Window to the World) to hack philosophy (The Present Tense and The Angel's Share). With the added assaults of showy guitar riffs and flaccid melodies, My Favorite Headache begs for an Excedrin accompaniment.
