Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, London, England
The latterday hard rock/progressive powerhouse, Dream Theater covers a forgotten Rush tune from the b-side of 2112.

Steve Says

Dream Theater is an incredible band that all Rush fans love. If you haven't heard them you owe it to yourself to give them a try.

There are 3 known recordings of different live Dream Theater concerts that contain this cover. I happened to choose the Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club recording (aka the "Uncovered" show) because DT released it especially for their fans on a Fan Club Christmas cd. Part of this show (without Tears) was released on their cd A CHANGE OF SEASONS.

Dream Theater has covered Rush songs many times in concert. Other songs include YYZ, Working Man, ByTor & The Snow Dog, 2112: Grand Finale, Cygnus X-1 and Different Strings.

In 1996 Mike Portnoy spearheaded a Rush Tribute album Working Man. He played drums on the songs Working Man, By-Tor And The Snow Dog, Analog Kid, The Trees, La Villa Strangiato and Jacob's Ladder. In addition, James LaBrie sang on By-Tor And The Snow Dog and Red Barchetta. Also John Petrucci played guitar on Jacob's Ladder.
An ROIO is a "Recording Of Indeterminate/Illegitimate Origin".

All known Dream Theater concert recordings that contain Tears are:

  • 01/31/95 Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, London, England (on Christmas CD 1996 and the roio Uncovered)
  • 10/30/95 Shibuya Kokaido Hall, Tokyo, Japan
  • 2/14/95 Downtown Cafe Radio Show (studio) Verona, Italy (on the roios Acoustic Dreams and Mind Control and Guitar Talkin')
